What’s going on in the shop 7/12/2022

We had said back in Decembers post we had some big news coming to the shop. Well unfortunately the only big news is there is no big news. In November we had placed an order for a new HAAS TM2p CNC milling machine to expand the shop, help with quality and speed up production. 8 months later we have nothing except for angry customers with no parts. We called our dealer HAAS HFO Trident SE in Tampa and asked what was going on only to get this for a response, Ohh sorry my bad I don’t know how this go so far out of hand. The machine was to be delivered 3 to 4 months after we ordered it. The dealer never followed up on the order, never tracked its progress or lack off, never gave a damn about it. Now we are dealing with lawyers due to the fact we were unable to produce the parts for our customers. we are looking at some very large fines for breach of contract. The dealer does not care what domino mess they have set off they have washed there hands and are unaccountable for the mess we are now in. If the dealer would have done there job we would have our new machine, making parts keeping customers happy. The future of the shop is un known due to this major set back.

Price increase and Shop update.

This is something I have been trying very hard not to have to due but I must raise my prices. Our raw material prices have drastically gone up over the last year and a half and unfortunately there is no relief in sight. We are incurring price increases from every direction from fuel for our trucks, credit card processing fee’s, Insurance, tooling, and misc. supplies. The prices we are paying today for most everything has doubled if not tripled and in some cases gone up 10x. I am left with no option but to raise our prices drastically to still make a small profit on our products.

I have been asked by numerous people when will our stainless steel plant hangers be back in stock. We made a large batch of them in early December but a local nursery bought them up so we made another batch and those also sold out before we had them finished. I am hoping this batch our online customers can get before other nurseries buy these up also.

I would like to Thank all of our customers for supporting us and look forward to serving you in the future.

2022 FedEx rate increases.

Here is the new rate in creases for FedEx for 2022. Shipping is about to get a lot more expensive. We are preparing ourselves for the reduction in sales due to the price of shipping increasing. It seems that FedEx thinks this is a great time for them to fatten there wallet at our expense. We need cheaper shipping not more expensive so people will buy the good they want not have to pay more for shipping than the item they are purchasing.

Shipping Rates to Increase for FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, and FedEx Freight Services

September 20, 2021

MEMPHIS, Tenn., September 20, 2021 — FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, and FedEx Freight, subsidiaries of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), will increase shipping rates on January 3, 2022.

FedEx Express shipping rates will increase by an average of 5.9% for U.S. domestic, U.S. export, and U.S. import services.

FedEx Freight shipping rates will also increase for shipments within Canada, within Mexico, and between the contiguous U.S. and Mexico.

The following FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Ground Economy, and FedEx Freight surcharge changes will also take effect in the coming months:

  • Effective November 1, 2021, a fuel surcharge increase will be applied to FedEx Express (U.S. domestic package and freight services), FedEx Ground, and FedEx Freight shipments.
  • Effective January 17, 2022, FedEx Freight will introduce a No Shipment Tendered surcharge that applies when a pickup is performed and no shipment is tendered to the carrier.
  • Effective January 17, 2022, the International Out-of-Delivery-Area Surcharge and International Out-of-Pickup-Area Surcharge rates will be determined based on the corresponding tier of the ZIP code, postal code, or city of the shipment’s origin and/or destination location for International Express Freight and Parcel services.

Beginning January 3, 2022, FedEx will offer customers who ship internationally an additional option for time-definite deliveries in one to three business days. With the new FedEx International Priority® Express service, customers will be able to schedule delivery by noon to select destinations. 2022 UPS rate increases.

UPS is at it again, hurting the small business with more rate increases. We do not make any money on shipping in fact we loose money. The rates on the website are the actual rates we are charged we never make money off of the shipping. Here is the email from UPS to us informing us over there 6% rate increase. That rate in crease is double the cost of living increase. USPS and FedEx are expected to have similar rate increases the day after Christmas.

What’s going on in the shop 4/16/2021

I would like to Thank everyone who has supported us and allowed us to stay extremely busy during the pandemic Thank you.

Product availability:

I try to keep product made and instock so when you place your order I can get the item shipped out with in a day or two of ordering. Material is becoming difficult to get and is taking longer than expected to receive. that is causing delays in manufacturing of products for the website which intern is causing delays in shipping products out to you. Material prices have doubled and in some cases tripled I am trying not to raise my prices at this time. Hope fully the steel market will settle down and prices will start to drop but if they do not settle down i will be forced to raise my prices.

As of January 20th 2021 UPS has raised its rates 20%  USPS has raised there rates 20% and not to be out done FedEx has also raised there rates by 20% and also now included a $50.00 heavy item fee for orders over 50 Lbs. I do not make anything on shipping in fact we lose money on shipping almost every order. The prices displayed on the website are the actual shipping prices.

I feel it is important to remain transparent with our customers and to keep them informed.

Thank you,

Rich Gallagher Owner/Fabricator

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

I would like to wish all my customers a Merry Christmas and Happy new year. With out all the great customers we had this year we would not have had such a phenomenal year. When 2020 rolled in it was set up to be a very busy year, Then in a couple of months that all changed wit the Covid virus but we worked around it to safely continue working and getting product made and shipped. I thought this year was going to be one of our worst and in tern people stepped up and purchased our products at a pace we never seen. I am still behind but I am getting slowly caught up. I am just about out of innovatory of all our products. I will be taking some time off after going non stop 7 days a week I need a little rest and my honey do list is getting quite long. The shop needs a major cleaning and restocking. I am going to try to take January off and get caught up on jobs at home and reorganize the shop making way for new equipment hope fully in June or July. I would like to thank every one who purchased our products over the last 12 months thank you for making 2020 one of our best years and we look forward to serving you in 2021.

Have a Safe and Happy New Year.

High lights from 2020 just some of the work we did this year.

Amazon Pay

As of today 4/5/2020 I will no longer be accepting payments though Amazon Pay. I would normally wait 2 to 3 weeks to get my money from Amazon now they no longer will direct deposit the funds to the company checking account. I will still be accepting payments though PayPal and my secure credit card processing company. I do apologize for inconvenience that may have caused.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) 3/20/2020

With the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic escalating I will not be accepting any local work in the shop until further notice. I will still be fabricating grill grates and other items sold on the website as long as I can get material from my suppliers. If you have something you need fabricated you can still send me your prints and I will be more than happy to fabricate it and ship it out to you.

In this uncertain time I have to protect my family from this virus. One member of my family has a compromised immune system and I cannot afford to bring this virus home. I hope you understand. Indian River County has has its first confirmed Coronavirus (COVID-19) case this morning 3/20/2020.

I will keep you updated as much as possible.

Please follow what the CDC, WHO, NIH and your local officials tell you to do. IF we keep our distance we can fight this virus.

  • Washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces
  • Staying at home when sick and seeking appropriate medical care
  • Social Distancing

I received this information from the NIH regarding the Covid19

The virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is stable for several hours to days in aerosols and on surfaces, according to a new study from National Institutes of Health, CDC, UCLA and Princeton University scientists in The New England Journal of Medicine. The scientists found that severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was detectable in aerosols for up to three hours, up to four hours on copper, up to 24 hours on cardboard and up to two to three days on plastic and stainless steel. The results provide key information about the stability of SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19 disease, and suggests that people may acquire the virus through the air and after touching contaminated objects.

A lot of this work would be great to show but I have to honor these agreements.

I am currently working to move my shop into the future with some new equipment purchase hopefully by the end of the year.

The summer has been very busy and I would like  to thank all my customers for that. Thank you.

Grill grate orders have been keeping me busy I have not had much time to get pictures but I have a few to share. These grates are for a 16″ Ranger Smoker from Horizon BBQ Smokers. This was a complete set of replacement stainless steel grates. The customer was not happy with the low quality grates supplied with there smoker.

I have also been very busy with several aluminum fabrications jobs for local business. Two of my customer’s have a none disclosure agreement with me so I cannot show the pictures of that work. But I have a local nursery I am making an aluminum potting table for them.

Whats going on in the shop 4/28/2019

I have been very busy with customer breakdowns. Seems like companies are pushing there equipment hard to make up for lost time during the recession and poor yields on there farms.

this Kubota R520S loader attachment mount was bent because the operator could not get off the machine to lock the attachment to the machine. replacement is not available and down time would be excessive. I removed the unit from the machine Friday morning and reinstalled the repaired unit Saturday morning so they can use the machine on Monday morning.

Next was a Tree Boom with a worn out hook mount needed to be repaired for employee safety. Removed worn out piece and fabricated new one from 3/4″ steel plate.

I have finally found a source for the quality stainless I use in the stainless steel grill grates I make and sell on the web site. Because of the delay in sourcing the right material i am very far behind. Hopefully the break down will calm down so I can get caught up. 18 hr days makes for a very long week, I am not complaining I just do not like being behind. Several other jobs were done that I did not get pictures of and some I did and will post later.

I want to apologizes again to the customers who have been patiently waiting for the stainless grill grate order to be filled.

Stainless steel grill grate manufacturing delays.

For the last 4 weeks I have been trying to order the Stainless steel used to make my grill grates. Several orders of material have been received and sent back to the steel mills. The material is substandard and welding and polishing is impossible. I have sent samples of the material to other suppliers around the country trying to obtain the proper material required for the grill grates. As of 4/14/2019 I still have no answers. I have been told by a couple of steel mills it’s because of the government tariffs but I do not buy that. What does tariffs have to do with substandard material quality the finished material is made here in the USA. The mill I have purchased the stainless rod from for several years suddenly does not produce the rod I have been buying.

I have no control over when and if the high quality stainless I use will be available.

I do applicate the patience of my customers and I do understand that you have spent a lot of money for a high quality item and you have not received it. I will not produce my high quality grill grates with low quality substandard material. If I cannot source the proper material in the next 7 to 10 days I will be issuing full refunds to all my customers who have grill grates on order.

I am very sorry for the delay and apologize.  This is not anything I can control.

Whats going on in the shop 4/07/2019

I have been extremely busy with local customers the last 2 months. As a job shop I do all kinds of work from welding, fabrication, hydraulic repairs & trouble shooting, to tractor repair and construction equipment repair along with local processors of citrus and plant nurseries. basically if its broke I fix it. I never know what I will be doing from day to day. Most days I am able to work on jobs in progress in the shop but lately I have been getting more and more emergency calls to come get there business back up and running. that slows down shop production.

I am about a month behind on grill grate fabrication. I would like to thank the people who have been very patient during the long wait. There are a few people who rather be impatient and rude and I am sorry I am only one person. I cannot go any faster than I am currently going and I have asked for there patience and thats about all I can do. Last week I received a large order of stainless rod for grill grates and had to send it back because it was unusable. After going back and forth with the steel mill there rep came to the shop and we sat down and discussed the reasons the stainless is no good to me. The answer I was given is it is due to the terrifs. Well that is not an answer I want to hear or do my customers. I was called Friday late after noon and was told a small part of the order will be delivered on Monday by pick up truck, the other 4800 feet will ship the end of next week. At least I can get going on some of the orders that have been waiting for a long time.

I will not use material that is not to my standards if the customer has to wait a little while longer then so be it. I will not ship out poor quality products.

All of my customers are very important to me and I try my best to get all orders filled in a timely manner. Being in my type of business if I get an emergency call I have to drop what I am doing and go get that customer back up and running.

Aluminum fabrication

The 2019 year has started off very rocky, but has steadily regaining its pace. I have been busy with local customers work. I am currently working on a Aluminum potting table with soil hopper for one of the local nurseries. This potting table is a large project and I am taking my time on it I do not believe in rushing a job just to get it done. This potting table will be a focal point for the nursery business and seen by many customers. I have also been busy with several repairs.

One repair was for a BigTex 70SR Dump trailer the trailer has not worked since it was purchased new. The company called me into see if I could find out what was going on. The trailer dealer even replaced the hydraulic power unit and the trailer still did not work. I looked at the truck and trailer and discovered one problem right away the truck did not have any power to the trailer plug to recharge the battery. The second problem was the replacement pump was no good. I contacted the pump manufacture KTI in California and told them what I found with there pump and they send me out a rebuild kit for free. Once the pump was rebuilt the pump was installed in the trailer. Fixed the wiring on the truck the dump trailer now works like it should have from the factory.

Another quick repair I was able to get a few pictures of was a fork carriage for a loader that damaged. A wheel loader backed over the fork carriage and broke the guard off the top of the carriage.

Another truck body repair. This is a Morgan truck body that had its cargo box corner hit by a tree limb. The customer wanted to keep the cargo compartment dry so they decided to use pond liner adhesive and tape to seal the box. After spending time pealing the tape off I was able to get the area cleaned and prepped for the new corner cap to be bonded and riveted into place. The whole process was done at the customers yard so they did not have any down time.

I have been busy in the shop on several customer projects, some are on non disclosure agreements that I cannot show you pictures of or talk about. Some of the items I can.  Bellow are a few that I can.

24″ X 36″ Steel grilling rack to use on a fire pit.

24″ x 36″ Steel grill grate for us on a fire pit.

Next I made this 22″ Stainless steel bar grate that the customer will replace his low quality factory supplied grate on his ceramic egg style grill. The customer has replaced his grill grates numerous times and is tired of buying low quality grates that rust out in less than a year.

This is a Stainless steel sear rack also for a ceramic egg style grill. This rack hangs by its feet to get the cooking surface right on the fire for searing steaks. Again the customer has purchased numerous grates and none last. This grate fits 22″ grills.

Not every job is a glamorous one, some are only about functionality. I plated this dump body because the rust had eaten its way threw the sides along the base of the walls. Customer wanted it repaired so to eliminate the liability of stone falling out of the truck on the road. The body is heavily rusted and rotted as seen in the pictures. The customer can now use the truck with out worry of rocks hitting cars.

I have been working with a local nursery to design them a  prototype cart for there operation, they need a light cart that can move plants from one part of there operation to the next and be comfortable for the workers so there not bending over all day long. They contacted several other companies to do this but they never got back to them. I was called and went over the next day to talk to them and see what they were looking for drew a quick sketch with a quote and they said build it. I pride myself on fast response, accurate quotes, quality work and done on time on budget no matter what it takes. Here are some pictures of that build once complete I will post the finished cart pictures.
